A set of three African stag beetles displayed in a large shadowbox frame that compliments their brown coloration! These are the same species and all male, the smaller ones did not eat as much as the huge major male in the center. They do not grow further as adults, what they eat when they are grubs in decaying wood, and its nutritional content, will determine their size as they pupate and then emerge...similar to the butterfly! Collected from sap flows on trees in the African rain forest.
